The world has been quiet, and Saise has been watching the skies. Through the tall fathoms of water above him, the stars are bright and hot and infinitely deep. They reflect and flicker back on themselves as the swell of the warm tide moves. The protecting reef at his back is silent, the little native fish hidden or fled.
